Frequently Asked Questions

When purchasing a pedigree kitten from a registered breeder, there are common questions buyers typically ask to ensure they are making an informed decision. Here are some frequently asked questions:

What breed is the kitten?

Since 2009 our only focus has been purebred, pedigree Ragdoll cats. They can all be traced back to Ann Bakers original lines. Ragdoll cats are known for being a relaxed and patient breed of cat. They have playful personalities and very relaxed temperament, making them a wonderful companion.

Can I see the kitten’s pedigree certificate?

You will receive your kitten’s pedigree in your own name after rehoming. It may take some time as we are required to wait for the whole litter to rehome before submission.  Parents registration papers will be provided to confirm you are purchasing a pedigree kitten, registered with Feline Control Council of Victoria.

 What is the price?

Our pet kittens are mostly priced $2,500-$3,000. The cost of a pedigree kitten can vary depending on its pedigree, show quality, colour and pattern. You get to choose. Occasionally we have retirees available. We look for the best homes for them. We usually charge a nominal fee to cover their vet work that is appropriate to age.

 What Vet work is included?

All kittens have vet checks on three separate occasions prior to rehomingOur kittens have been microchipped and are regularly wormed. We will provide information and a demonstration of how we give worming tablets. Kittens are spayed or neutered prior to rehoming.  They will have received two doses of the F3 vaccination for cats. This is a core vaccine that protects against three common and potentially serious viral diseases: Feline Panleukopenia (Feline Parvovirus), Feline Calicivirus, and Feline Herpesvirus (Feline Rhinotracheitis). You will need to give a third vaccination to complete the course. Boosters will be discussed with your own vet. We do not routinely flea treat our kittens as our cats do not have fleas. We will discuss appropriate options if your kitten will have access to an outdoor pen.

How will I know what the kitten’s temperament is like?

We recommend you come and meet our kittens; we like to get to know you and see how the kittens interact with you and your family. We are happy to facetime or zoom with people who are interstate or overseas. Kittens have different personalities even within the same litter. We can suggest the bold ones for a young family or the smoothest for an elderly person or therapy pet. We get to know our kittens very well over their first 12 weeks. They are raised in our home, so they are used to household noises and our German Shepherd dogs. Rehoming is a very stressful event, and we will suggest strategies.

How much grooming and maintenance is required?

All cats require grooming to assist with removing old coat reducing ingestion of fur and incidence of furballs.  All cats shed fur and skin cells. The coat is generally low maintenance but can matt if left unattended. Our grooming routine is simple, it requires a fine-toothed comb and a slicker brush. We demonstrate our grooming techniques at the rehoming visit and can recommend professional groomers if you prefer. Ragdolls can be bathed but you need to start a routine at an early age. The claws will need to be trimmed regularly, we provide a demonstration.

What is the kitten’s diet and feeding schedule?

We will discuss this topic at length and provide all the food you require to get you started as we prefer kittens to initially stay on the same diet. We are always available for advice if any issues arise and encourage you to keep in contact.

Is the kitten litter trained?

Yes. It’s incredible how they train themselves and only have accidents if they can’t find a clean tray. We advise on types of trays and litters. We use several types including a self-cleaning system.

Can I meet the kitten’s parents?

Absolutely. We are proud of our cats and their achievements. We would love show you around.

What health guarantees or warranties do you offer?

We provide a document of terms and conditions of sale that clearly states our mutual obligations. It adheres to Consumer Affairs guidelines and is available on request. We provide a health guarantee for any genetic disorders or illness that may arise within the first 12 months. It is our mission to provide you with a healthy, purrfect companion. We do genetic testing for diseases and traits including Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) and Polycystic Kidney disease (PKD). We will provide you with a copy of the parents DNA screen.  We are always available for advice and encourage you to keep in contact.

How old is the kitten when it can go to its new home?

Our kittens are 12 weeks old when they rehome. If they are flying interstate its 14 weeks. Overseas about 18 weeks so they have the maturity and body size to cope.
